A Birth Center Story – The Birth of Baby M at Willow Midwife Center for Birth and Wellenss

These first time parents were referred to me by a friend and client of mine. They really didn’t know where to start. She knew she wanted to try to birth without pain medication and I suggested they look at two birth centers. After touring them both, they decided on Willow Midwife Center for Birth and Wellness despite it being a bit further away. They dug into Hypnobabies classes and researched all the things. We had a lot of really good talks. And then finally it was baby day. They called me bright and early one morning saying that she’d started having surges and they were already coming very quickly so I headed right over. They were right in a nearby neighborhood and it took me about 5 minutes to get there.

Sure enough, when I arrived, it was very apparent that today was indeed her birthing time. We labored at their home for about 3 hours, with lots of counter pressure and hip squeezes when we decided it was time to make the 25 minute drive to the birth center. When we arrived and checked in she immediately got into the shower while we filled the tub. Leaning over a peanut ball in the shower gave her a lot of relief. This birth explored every single position in the birth handbook as their little girl was taking her time rotating into the right position. She sat on the toilet backwards, utilized the tub in a few positions, got on and off the bed, and then finally out came their baby girl peacefully in the water and right up to mamas chest!
